Leisure Hotels – The Environmentally Friendly Hotel Group

At all the hotels that form part of the Leisure Group, the issue of conservation is taken very seriously.

Across the board, we are striving to be as environmentally friendly as possible, without sacrificing the comfort of our guests. At the Fountains Hotel, for example, we have been making a contribution towards a cleaner, safer and more sustainable planet by educating all members of the staff about working ‘greener’, by introducing energy saving devices, water conservation methods, as well as by employing cleaner production.

We  further prevent, reduce or mitigate harmful effects of our operations on humans, animals and natural resources by only using environmentally friendly products. We minimise waste by recycling. We encourage our suppliers and contractors to apply similar environmentally friendly standards. Our green policies are monitored regularly to see where improvement can be made.

Some more examples of how we try to be kinder to the environment and minimise our environmental impact are:

  • We are using 50% recycled paper for all internal printing.

  • We have a green policy which is endorsed by management and staff.

  • A green team has been set-up.

  • All our emails remind the reader to consider the environment before printing.

  • We make electronic copies accessible and only print what and when absolutely necessary.

  • We use energy saving where possible.

  • The spaces in our hotels have been large windows and skylights, especially designed to let in a lot of natural light.

  • All the hot water pipes at our hotels are insulated.

  • All the waste at our hotels is separated at source and then recycled.

  • At all the hotels, towels are laundered on request in order to reduce water & energy consumption.

  • Certain lamps are placed on a switch or timer to control their light usage.

  • Paper is used twice.

  • We return plastic crates, juice bottles and glass jars to the suppliers.

  • We buy butter and jams in bulk instead of pre-packed.

  • Used cooking oil is returned to the supplier to be reused.

  • We use soap dispensers and buy refills for them.

  • All our toilets are equipped with dual flush systems to conserve water.

  • We installed aerated taps and adjustable showerheads in all of the renovated bathrooms.

  • We have added low flow adapters to the shower heads as well as to the hand held showers.

Our ultimate goal is to treat the environment as kindly as we treat our guests.
